Laurie Hammond

Founder / Director

Laurie is a founder and director of Timsco Pty Ltd, which has operated inQbator at Varsity Lakes on the central Gold Coast since 2000. He is also a founder and director of iQ Capital Management Pty Ltd, which was established in 2007 to manage funds under the iQ Funds brand.

A related corporate advisory and investment banking firm, interFinancialVentures Pty Ltd was also established in 2007.

Laurie’s background includes almost 20 years as a scientist and research director (biology and environmental science), and 10 years as chief executive in a number of organisations financing or applying innovation in Australia and New Zealand. He has also lived and worked in Jamaica and New Caledonia.

He has extensive experience of innovation and technology commercialisation systems in Europe, Asia and North America, and is a recent or current member of a number of funding and advisory bodies on industry development and innovation, including:

• Tax Working Group for the Review of the National Innovation System (2008)
• the national R&D Tax Concession Committee (Chairman 2000-2005)
• the Commonwealth government's Industry Research & Development (IR&D) Board (1999-2005)
• the Commonwealth government's Cooperative Research Centres (CRC) Committee (2000-2007)
• the Queensland government's Food, Fibre and Agribusiness Council (2000-2008).
• BusinessGC (the Gold Coast Regional Development Advisory Board) 2000-2008).
Laurie is Chairman of CRC Mining, and chairman or director of a number of other companies including investees of iQ Fund 1.

His qualifications include an MBA from the University of Melbourne (1990); a PhD from the University of the West Indies (1979); and BSc Hons 1st Class from James Cook University (1973).
