Rick Anstey

Founder / Director

Rick is a founder and director of Timsco Pty Ltd, which has operated inQbator at Varsity Lakes on the central Gold Coast since 2000. He is also a founder and director of iQ Capital Management Pty Ltd, which was established in 2007 to manage funds under the iQ Funds brand. A related corporate advisory and investment banking firm, interFinancialVentures Pty Ltd was also co-founded in 2007, of which Rick is a director.

Rick has over 30 years' experience in the Information & Communications Technology industry, including 20 years of building and running his own companies. After migrating to Australia from the UK in 1976, he worked initially with TNT and Comalco before starting his own software development company, the Tangent Group Pty Ltd, in Sydney in 1983.

Tangent established a strong reputation for developing software for the banking and finance sector, forging long-term relationships with blue-chip clients such as the Commonwealth Bank, Westpac, National Australia Bank and MLC Insurance and other top 100 organisations in Australia, becoming a leader in the evolving client-server based software development environment and distributed computing. Tangent expanded into strategic IT planning and business consultancy, and marketed products that had been developed through joint ventures with its clients.

In 1994 Tangent was acquired by Techway Limited, a publicly listed Australian company.

While running Tangent, Rick launched several subsidiary companies in Australia and overseas and initiated various associated business ventures, including being a co-founder in 1991 of the successful Strategic Publishing Group, publisher of the top-rated IT&T industry magazines, MIS, CFO and Information Age. Strategic Publishing Group was acquired by Fairfax in 1999.

In 1994 Rick established Corby Group as a venture catalyst to identify, advise and mentor innovative Australian companies with global opportunities, to attract international companies to Australia and assist with associated start-ups and mergers/acquisitions, and to establish and manage a venture capital fund for investment in early-stage innovation. In 1999, Corby Group initiated GS Technology Capital with the investment bank Grant Samuel & Associates, to focus on Australian IT and e-commerce opportunities. Rick was an executive director of GS Technology Capital until the end of 2000, when the initiative was terminated because market conditions did not support the raising of first-time technology funds.

Rick has been engaged in economic development activities on the Gold Coast and in other regions of Queensland, working closely with the Gold Coast City Council, the Queensland Government and the Federal Government to successfully attract corporate investment into the area and to develop the region's economic base.

He is a director of Technology One Limited (ASX: TNE) and Pioneer Mortgages Pty Ltd, as well as chairman or director of a number of other companies including investees of iQ Fund 1. He is a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Management.
