m-View used to teach science
Monday, 1 May 2006
Andrew Williams, a teacher at Esk State School has found a great way to get his Year 4 students excited about science and more specifically, fire ants. Through the “Smart Classrooms: Computers for Teachers and Spotlight on Science” project of the Queensland Department of Education he was able to get access to the CyberSTEM scanning electron microscope (SEM) facility at the University of Queensland.
Better still, students can see and use the facility without leaving their classrooms. Using m-View students can view the microscope operators and the SEM imaging of the fire ants live, and ask the microscope operators questions via m-View's chat feature. The first of a series of webcasts was successfully broadcasted with lots of positive feedback from teachers and students who appreciated the opportunity to view the video feed of an electron microscope live and to actively participate using the chat feature.
This webcast is part of Momentum’s ongoing commitment to the education field and promoting the use of m-View to enhance learning and collaboration among schools.
